The Micro Vs System was Nintendo's first foray into dedicated two-player competitive handheld gaming. Each unit included two sets of controls — one on each side — allowing two players to compete head-to-head simultaneously.
Three games were released in the Micro Vs System in 1984: Boxing, Donkey Kong 3, and Donkey Kong Hockey. The competitive format was well-suited to these game types, and the dual-control design made these units physically larger than standard Game & Watch devices.
